EEC Minister Danil Ibrayev: "The Commission is creating conditions for the effective development of the economies of the Union”

4/1/2016

On April 1, Bishkek hosted an open lecture at the American University of Central Asia, where the Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission Danil Ibrayev spoke on the perspectives of development of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the context of globalisation and the benefits for Kyrgyzstan due to its accession to the EAEU.

In particular, Danil Ibrayev said: "One of the positive factors for the citizens and businesses of Kyrgyzstan is removing the customs control at the border with Kazakhstan. It has simplified and accelerated the process of crossing the border. Another important factor is the accession of the Republic to the single services market, which has been operating in 43 sectors within the Union since January 1, 2015. Furthermore, the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic have benefited from the liberalisation of migration policy.”

During the lecture, the EEC Minister informed the students, faculty and representatives of business associations in Kyrgyzstan of the activities of the Commission, as well as the functioning and objectives of the Union. Danil Ibrayev noted: "The Eurasian Economic Union is expanding its work on building relations with other integration blocs and leading economic powers." The Member States of the Union, for example, have supported China’s initiative of establishing the Silk Road Economic Belt. In this regard, the EEC Minister noted: "The aim to converge these two projects is testimony to the fact that the EAEU Member States and China are striving to establish a harmonious common space of mutually beneficial cooperation. This will enable us to more fully discover the transit potential of the Union Member States, including the Kyrgyz Republic, which is nearest neighbor of China, to establish a reliable land link between Asia and Europe, and to attract additional investment to Kyrgyzstan and other EAEU Member States for the construction of new and modernisation of the existing roads and railways.

According to Danil Ibrayev, the Commission lays great emphasis on the implementation of the EAEU goals: "Сreation of the conditions for the effective development of the economies of the Member States, establishment of a single market for goods, services, capital, labour, and facilitating sustainable business development and fair competition". In this case, the Member States also define the concept of "sustainable development" as an establishment of common energy markets and deepening integration in the field of transport and infrastructure.
