Members of EEC Council agreed upon several more items within Strategic Directions for Developing Eurasian Integration

2/6/2020

On February 6, members of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Council held a consultation to finalize the draft Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025.

Earlier, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council had instructed the governments of the Union States to ensure, together with the EEC, that the document is finalized and submitted to the Intergovernmental Council for consideration in April.

“The list of uncoordinated measures and mechanisms includes about a hundred items, while most of the activities fully comply with the requirements of the Treaty on the EAEU and the Declaration on Further Development of Integration Processes signed by the Heads of States,” stressed Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the EEC Board.

During the discussion, the sides reached a consensus on a number of previously uncoordinated items and agreed to hold the next consultation in a week.

“The work has become more intensive, and the sides manage to reach a consensus on almost all disputed issues,” Sergei Glazyev, Member of the Board - Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC, noted following the consultation.

The draft Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025 discloses measures and mechanisms that will enable to ultimately complete shaping the regulatory and legal framework for cooperation of the EAEU States, raise the compliance standards of the Union's supranational and national institutions, and ensure that the Member States' approaches to the definition and regulation of new areas of cooperation are harmonized and synchronized.

If the Intergovernmental Council adopts the document, it will be scheduled for approval at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council's meeting in May 2020.
