EEC Board approved draft comprehensive action plan to prevent spreading coronavirus in EAEU


The Council of Heads of authorized bodies in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population of the EAEU Member States, jointly with the Eurasian Economic Commission has prepared a draft Comprehensive plan of short-term and long-term activities in the sphere of sanitary and epidemiological welfare and health aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus and other infectious diseases, capacity building of public health services, sanitary and epidemiological supervision, coordinated development of effective diagnostic tools and COVID-19 vaccinal prevention.

"Implementing the measures included in the comprehensive plan will enable strengthening and coordinating the potential of the EAEU countries’ public health services which can be used to prevent not only the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection, but also other infectious diseases in the EAEU territory. Therefore, the plan will contribute to protecting the population in the Union’s common epidemiological space to prevent possible future epidemics," stressed Viktor Nazarenko, EEC Minister in charge of Technical Regulation.

The Comprehensive plan of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases provides for mutual exchange of information between surveillance authorities within the EAEU common information processes; joint development of recommendations; joint research and training of specialists to practice coordinated responses to outbreaks of current and unknown (new) infectious diseases in accordance with international medical and sanitary regulations.

The document was generally approved at the meeting of the EEC Board and meets the Resolution of the legislative and supreme body of the World Health Assembly (issued on May 18, 2020), which is supported by more than a hundred WHO member countries.​
