The implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Vietnam, which entered into force on October 5, 2016, was discussed on June 18 at the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) by the Member of the Board (Minister) in charge of Trade of the EEC Veronika Nikishina and the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Trần Tuấn Anh. Certain positive trends in the development of trade were pointed out, largely due to the Agreement.

The attention was particularly brought to the issues of interest to the business of the States of the Union and Vietnam. They included: the use of trigger protective measures with regard to light industry products from Vietnam and the implementation of projects on industrial assembly of motor vehicles of Belarus and Russia on the Vietnamese territory. Another topic of discussion was the development of a system of electronic certification and verification of the origin of goods. It must be created before the end of the year 2018, and a separate international agreement needs to be signed for that. The system will enable the participants of preferential trade to save time and money on customs clearance of commodities, as well as verification of the origin when it is needed.

Following the discussion, the parties agreed on further development of interaction in order to strengthen cooperation between the countries of the EAEU and Vietnam, and also scheduled a second meeting of the Joint Committee on the Free Trade Agreement in autumn in Vietnam.
