EEC Council approved draft main guidelines for EAEU States’ macroeconomic policy for 2020-2021

EEC Council approved draft main guidelines for EAEU States’ macroeconomic policy for 2020-2021

4/29/2020

The draft document provides for preserving macroeconomic stability and the achieved standard of living of the EAEU States’ population as well as forming foundations for further advanced economic development of the Union as the macroeconomic policy targets in the medium term.

The document also contains measures aimed at curbing the negative impact and minimizing the economic consequences of external shocks associated with the coronavirus pandemic and the sharp decline in commodity prices.

Achieving these targets implies implementing integration and national measures in the following areas: maintaining macroeconomic stability; maintaining and increasing investment, developing the Union's scientific, technological and production potential; creating conditions for maintaining stable demand, expanding export opportunities and intensifying mutual trade.

A number of issues on ensuring macroeconomic stability have already been reflected in the Disposition of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council "On measures taken within the Eurasian Economic Union aimed at ensuring economic stability amid developing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic" adopted on April 10, 2020.

The draft main guidelines for the EAEU States’ macroeconomic policy for 2020-2021 will be considered at the next meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
