Eliminating by the Eurasian Economic Union countries of trade barriers in the internal market, adopting a comprehensive plan to control COVID-19 and other infections, developing systematic approaches to introducing marking of goods, forming a joint Earth Remote Sensing system, preparing maps of industrialization  and developing agroindustry and other relevant matters were key topics of discussion at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held on July 17 in Minsk.

The meeting of the Intergovernmental Council was held in a face-to-face format for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. It was attended by the EIC Chairman, Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Askar Mamin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kubatbek Boronov, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as Ion Kiku, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, and Sergey Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.

Nikolay Podguzov, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, also spoke at the meeting. He told about prospects for implementing joint projects within the EAEU.

As Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters following the meeting, all 18 agenda items were considered despite heated discussions. They solve key issues of developing the Eurasian economic integration.

Mikhail Myasnikovich has noted that the EAEU authorities managed to ensure well coordinated work in serious realities of 2020. Prompt and strategic decisions were adopted in the interests of the States and citizens on moving goods within the Union borders. He has noted the high level of mutual understanding when working out issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In total, more than 300 acts have been adopted this year. 37 various level meetings were held. 9 barriers have been eliminated," the Chairman of the EEC Board stressed.  

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Union starts implementing innovative investment projects in the space, industrial and agro-industrial spheres owning to the decisions adopted at the Intergovernmental Council.

"We are arriving at a mutually supportive specialization that will enable not only to compete intelligently in the EAEU market, but also to gain new technologies and ensure new workplaces," the Head of the EEC Board said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich has also added that the Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025, generally approved by the Heads of the States, are currently being finalized. The Commission has prepared a plan with specific steps to implement the document in order to submit materials to the Heads of the States for consideration in the fall of 2020.​
