On February 19-20, within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Commission and under the chairmanship of Valery Koreshkov, a Member of the Board - Minister in charge of Technical Regulation, an international seminar on implementation of the 2015-2018 Action Plan in the sphere of quarantine and plant protection within the framework of the Memorandum of understanding dated November 12, 2013 between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO) took place.

Representatives of the regional branch of the UN FAO for Europe and Central Asia, Secretariat of International Convention for Quarantine and Plant Protection (Secretariat of ICQPP), European and Mediterranean Organization for Quarantine and Plant Protection (EOQPP), authorities of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Member States and the Kyrgyz Republic took part in the seminar.

In his opening speech, Valery Koreshkov emphasized the importance of international contacts in the sphere of quarantine and phytosanitary measures: "Under EAEU expansion with new Member States joining the Union and constant growing number of countries ready to cooperate with the Union, the trade volumes and geography are growing as well. But risks of phytosanitary importation of quarantine objects and their circulation are also increasing and that should be minimized by joint efforts".

Minister noted, that main directions for development of the quarantine phytosanitary measures area within the Eurasian Economic Union are reflected in the EAEU Treaty that entered into force on January 1, 2015. The List of products subject to quarantine, Common List of quarantine objects of the Union and Common quarantine phytosanitary requirements are being adopted by the Eurasian Economic Commission.

When discussing the 2015-2018 Action Plan within the framework of the Memorandum of understanding between the EEC and the UN FAO, the participants to the seminar outlined the priority directions of its implementation. The preliminary schedule of joint actions in the said sphere has been defined.
