The first meeting of the Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality was held on June 25 in Molodechno (the Republic of Belarus) as part of the 13th Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia. The event was attended by Alexander Subbotin, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The meeting has noted that the Committee, established in February this year, is intended to serve as a coordinating platform for protecting internal markets from unsafe products, preventing trade barriers, and improving the competitiveness and quality of goods.
The meeting discussed the Committee’s work plan for the near future, with due regard to current development trends in standardization.
Alexander Subbotin put forward an initiative to synchronize legislation in the field of technical regulation within the Union State and the Eurasian Economic Union.
“We are confident that interaction between the Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality and the Eurasian Economic Commission will help improve the efficiency of future work in the field of technical regulation, both within the Union State and across the EAEU. Our overall purpose is to improve the safety, quality, and competitiveness of products, as well as to systematically remove technical barriers to mutual trade,” the EEC Minister emphasized.
The Eurasian Economic Union has established a unique infrastructure to protect the internal market. Russia and Belarus carry out a significant portion of the standardization work as part of their programs for developing standards to the EAEU technical regulations. The expansion of the Union’s authority in the field of standardization requires close coordination with the new Committee.
