A meeting between Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister in charge of Trade, and leaders of Mongolian ministries and agencies headed by Davaasuren Sodnomdarjaa, Deputy Minister of Economy and Development in Mongolia, was held at the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

During the meeting, which was attended by the leadership of the General Administration of Customs of Mongolia, the Mongolian Agency for Standardization and Metrology, the General Department of Veterinary Medicine, and the National Plant Protection Organization, the parties discussed key areas for strengthening cooperation.

"The Interim Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia, signed last summer, has been the driving force in developing our cooperation. Despite the limited scope of the agreement, it enables the parties to increase exports of virtually all major traded goods. We estimate that there are all the preconditions for growth in exports of both agricultural and industrial products,” noted Andrey Slepnev.

During the meeting, a particular attention was paid to the development of a joint action plan for the implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement.

"This plan should include practical measures aimed at actively unlocking the potential for trade and economic cooperation between interested EAEU states and Mongolia. "When developing our plans, we primarily take into account the specific requests of the business community, including in the areas of customs control, technical barriers to trade, and SPS measures, as well as the development of e-commerce channels," the EEC Minister emphasized.

Andrey Slepnev also took part in the Russian-Mongolian Business Forum. He presented to businesses the key tasks that must be addressed within the implementation of the above-mentioned plan.

In particular, the goal of significantly increasing exports of meat and meat products from Mongolia was outlined, including in the context of providing the partner's livestock industry with vaccines. Measures to increase awareness of Mongolian businesses about the Union's customs regulations were also discussed. Further steps have been outlined to resolve difficulties of confirming the compliance of Mongolian products with the mandatory requirements of the EAEU.

“There are some issues, and they are not always easy to solve – a lot needs to be done for trade to truly show noticeable growth. But we are ready to take this path together with our Mongolian partners and provide businesses with all the necessary support,” concluded Andrey Slepnev.

The Interim Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, on the one part, and Mongolia, on the other part, was signed on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Minsk in June 2025. The parties are currently carrying out the ratification procedures necessary for the agreement to enter into force.
