Key areas of cooperation
between the Eurasian Economic Union and the United Nations were discussed by
Daniyar Imanaliev, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the
Eurasian Economic Commission, and Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General of the
United Nations, in New York.
The two parties confirmed their commitment to implementing in practice the provisions of Memoranda and Joint Statements with UN regions and organizations such as UNECE, ESCAP, ECLAC, as well as specialized agencies such as WIPO, FAO, UNIDO, and UNCTAD.
The EEC Minister informed on the contribution of the Eurasian economic integration to implementing the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, noting that most of the key objectives in this field are covered by the EAEU law.
Daniyar Imanaliev shared his experience of preparing the second EEC report, “On the Impact of the Eurasian Economic Integration on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by the EAEU Member States,” which was presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in 2025.
“Regional associations have high potential for achieving the UN's sustainable development goals,” Daniyar Imanaliev emphasized. “The experience of integration within the EAEU proves the importance of economic cooperation for solving many global tasks.”
For his part, Mr. Li Junhua emphasized the importance of close cooperation between organizations on issues of sustainable development, macroeconomic policy, statistics, demographic processes, and migration. He also took a favourable view of the opening of the Sustainable Development Goals Center in Almaty, which will facilitate the dialogue between the EEC and UN structures on SDGs.
Following the meeting, the UN Under-Secretary-General invited the EEC representatives to participate in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July, while Daniyar Imanaliev invited the UN representatives to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum to be held in May in Astana.
