EAEU and Iran agreed to cooperate on Eurasian Agroexpress project

The Eurasian Economic Commission held a meeting with the Iranian side on the development of the Eurasian Agroexpress project.

“As negotiated during the work on a full-scale free trade area between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran, we are putting all our agreements into practice,” noted Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade.

In this regard, he reminded that in particular, the talks were about supplying EAEU products to Iran, as well as the organization of large-scale delivery of Iranian vegetables and fruits to the market of our countries. The said products are available on store shelves today. However, as the Minister is confident, with the use of Eurasian Agroexpress, agricultural produce will be delivered more quickly, with better quality and fewer intermediaries.

“We offer interaction with a large Iranian holding company, which can either directly enter the project or act as a “single window” for arranging supplies by your agricultural producers to Iran and the export of our products in the opposite direction,” said, in turn, Alireza Peyman-Pak, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working by this logic, delegating the discussion of the specific format and details of cooperation to the directorate of the Eurasian Agroexpress project – Eurasian Agrologistics ANO – and the Iranian company.

“At the same time, we understand that, in addition to logistics, there are other issues that need to be addressed. These include mutual settlements, veterinary and phytosanitary control, and issues of transit through Iran towards the Persian Gulf countries and India,” also emphasized Andrey Slepnev.
