Opportunities to diversify and deepen the dialogue on a wide range of economic agenda were discussed at the meeting of the Joint Working Group of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The online event co-chaired by Eldar Alisherov, EEC Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, and Tekreth Kamrang, State Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce of the Kingdom of Cambodia, was held on February 19.
The meeting attendees discussed trade, customs regulation, industry and agricultural sector, digital development, insurance and securities, competition and consumer rights protection.
Eldar Alisherov noted that implementing the Memorandum of Interaction contributes to improving the economic competitiveness of the EAEU countries and Cambodia and removing information barriers. “The dynamics of trade and economic cooperation between our countries shows a good potential for interaction as well as prospects for diversifying its geography. We see a mutual attitude for developing a sectoral dialogue on issues within the EEC competence,” the EEC Minister noted.
According to Eldar Alisherov, the format of the EEC-Cambodia dialogue offers additional opportunities for interaction through business circles, which are the drivers of trade and economic cooperation and make it possible to identify the most promising areas for deepening the dialogue.
“It is important to widely involve the business community representatives of the EAEU countries and Cambodia in the dialogue as well as assist in establishing their direct contacts,” the EEC Minister emphasized. “We invite the businesses to explore the possibility of organizing business forums and exhibitions, including in the period between the Working Group meetings”.
The Head of the EEC Integration Unit invited the Cambodian partners to take part in the events of the Eurasian Economic Forum, as well as to join the EAEU-ASEAN Business Dialogue, traditionally held as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Tekreth Kamrang, State Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce of the Kingdom of Cambodia, confirmed the Cambodian side's attitude for active dialogue with the EEC and welcomed the development of joint projects and initiatives that will improve mutual access of manufacturers from the two regions to the EAEU and Cambodian markets.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Commission's relevant departments, official and business circles of the EAEU countries and Cambodia. The importance of deepening the EAEU-ASEAN dialogue was noted given the growing role of these integration associations in the regional economic architecture.
