EAEU and CIS exchanged experience in agricultural sector development

Naira Karapetyan, Director of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Agricultural Policy Department, informed the meeting of the CIS Intergovernmental Council on Agriculture held on September 18 in Dushanbe, the Republic of Tajikistan, about the agricultural sector development in the Eurasian Economic Union and its high self-sufficiency in food products.The key discussion topics were interstate relations on the agricultural sector matters and cooperation in food security, with corresponding draft documents considered.
"Taking into account close trade and economic ties between the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union, I am certain that further cooperation in the field of agriculture will allow fulfilling the existing potential of our integration associations to improve this industry's productivity, increasing mutual supplies of agricultural produce and strengthening food security in the Eurasian space," noted Naira Karapetyan.
The meeting resulted in defining the main directions for cooperation in the medium-term sustainable development of agriculture and agri-food systems.
The meeting of the CIS Intergovernmental Council on Agriculture was attended by Ministers of Agriculture of the CIS countries, a representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and experts.
