The EAEU strengthens transport connectivity

At a meeting of the Intergovernmental Council held in Minsk on October 2, 2026, the heads of government of the EAEU countries approved a report on the creation and development of transport infrastructure in the territories of the EAEU Member States along the East–West and North–South routes, including as part of alignment with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The annual preparation of the report is provided for by the roadmap for implementing the Declaration on Further Development of Economic Processes within the Eurasian Economic Union until 2030 and for the period until 2045.

“Transport consistently meets the needs of our countries’ economies for transport services. In 2025, freight turnover across all modes of transport showed positive dynamics and amounted to more than 6 trillion tonne-kilometres,” noted Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure.

The Member States of the Union are actively implementing large-scale infrastructure projects. To coordinate these efforts, measures under the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Eurasian Transport Corridors are being carried out:

- target indicators for development have been formed;

- minimum requirements have been developed;

- passports of Eurasian corridors have been prepared.

An important achievement was the entry into force on May 17 this year of the Agreement on Permissible Weights, Axle Loads and Dimensions of Vehicles When Travelling on Roads of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States Included in Eurasian Transport Corridors, which ensured technological unity across more than 14 thousand km of roads.

The Commission, together with the parties, is also actively working to expand international cooperation in transport with the People’s Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Thus, the implementation of large-scale projects and the expansion of international cooperation with key partners lay the foundation for transforming Eurasian transport corridors into a key element of sustainable economic growth in Eurasia.
