EEC shaping a space of mutual respect and trust between consumers and businesses

Informed Consumer – Responsible Business. This is the slogan under which the Eurasian Economic Union countries will conduct their joint work on protecting consumer rights this year. A relevant recommendation was adopted at the February 14 meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board.

Research carried out by the Commission shows that the key problem negatively affecting consumer demand and undermining economic development is still unfair acts by sellers, rogue schemes and consumer fraud.

The topic prioritized by the Union this year is intended to draw attention to the need for shaping a space of mutual respect and trust between consumers and businesses. The basis for such work is the Program of Joint Actions by the Member States to Ensure Consumer Rights Protection

To achieve this goal, the EAEU countries have planned large-scale outreach activities for the public and businesses on the matters of consumer protection. That will allow to expand the current and introduce new mechanisms for supporting and promoting good relations between participants of the Union consumer market.

For reference

The Program of Joint Actions by the Member States to Ensure Consumer Rights Protection was adopted by the EIC Disposition No. 12 dated June 21, 2022. The document provides for annual activities to inform and educate the population of the Union on the issues of consumer protection. The topic of such work is announced every year starting from 2023 and is formalized in a recommendation by the Commission.

This year topic "Informed Consumer – Responsible Business" was proposed by the Advisory Committee on Consumer Rights Protection of the Union Member States comprised by representatives of public authorities, non-governmental organizations and business communities of Member States.
