EEC and ASEAN strengthen cooperation in customs regulation
29.01.2026

Best practices in developing the single window approaches in foreign economic activities and organizing cross-border exchange of information were considered at the webinar of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Cooperation in customs regulation and trade facilitation are stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Commission and ASEAN Secretariat signed in 2018.

"Promotion of foreign trade interactions between the EAEU countries and ASEAN requires effective customs regulation and trade facilitation. An effective instrument for that is the single window mechanism," noted Valentina Nagovitsyna, Deputy Director of the EEC Department for Customs Legislation and Law Enforcement Practice.

ASEAN experience in employing legal and technical solutions to ensure compatibility of national single windows was of particular interest for the Commission's representatives. In her turn, Valentina Nagovitsyna told about establishing uniform customs regulation within the EAEU and about the objectives of the Commission's Customs Unit for the nearest future.

During the event the parties exchanged experience in organizing electronic exchange of information between the Member States of the two integration associations and third countries.

The parties indicated their interest in further cooperation on digitalization and trade facilitation.

The webinar was also attended by representatives of the EAEU government authorities and business community.

The webinar was organized as part of implementing the Cooperation Program between the EEC and ASEAN for 2026–2030.
