Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a meeting with Xin Bao’an, Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development – 2026 in New York.
Arzybek Kozhoshev informed Xin Bao'an about the progress made in establishing the Eurasian Economic Union’s common electric power market and implementing other energy projects across the Eurasian space.
The two sides separately discussed conceptual issues of the joint energy forum on sustainable development, organized by GEIDCO, the EEC Energy and Infrastructure Branch, and the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, scheduled to take place in September 2026 in Bishkek.
Arzybek Kozhoshev stressed that the joint energy forum would serve as a platform for high-level dialogue involving representatives of government circles and the business community, and would help establish long-term relationships and achieve practical results.“Low-carbon development, energy efficiency, and energy security are important for the Central Asian States. They have enormous potential for developing renewable energy, yet there is a need to modernize grid equipment and enhance cross-border energy cooperation. In these circumstances, the transition to sustainable development takes on particular significance for the Central Asian countries,” the EEC Minister noted.
GEIDCO focuses its efforts on ensuring regional energy security, promoting integration processes in the energy sector, and developing cross-border and interregional energy cooperation.
The Global Energy Interconnection Initiative is included in the UN 2030 Agenda to promote the concept of a global energy interconnection system for implementing the UN “Sustainable Energy for All” initiative, and promotes developing relevant technical standards as well as coordinated actions in research, innovation, and investment.
