The issues of improving the Eurasian Economic Union’s law to implement innovative technologies as the basis for developing livestock breeding were discussed at a meeting of the Coordination Meeting on Livestock Breeding within the EAEU, held at the Chebomilk Agricultural Park (the Chuvash Republic).

“The creation of governance mechanisms is aimed at efficient use of the Member States’ resource potential to develop livestock breeding and create favorable conditions for increasing production and expanding mutual trade in pedigree stock,” mentioned Naira Karapetyan, Director of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Agro-Industrial Policy Department.

The meeting attendees discussed the functioning of national information systems in the field of livestock breeding, as well as creating and using the EAEU databases on pedigree animals and selection achievements.

The meeting discussed common approaches and principles of interstate interaction in accounting for the breeding and productive qualities of pedigree animals and creating an infrastructure for introducing genomic analysis based on phenotypic data. The attendees exchanged information on the best innovative technologies and prospects for developing genomic selection within the EAEU.

Naira Karapetyan presented the meeting attendees with a financial support mechanism for cooperative projects in the agro-industrial complex.

The EEC representative also held working meetings with Andrey Makushev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture of the Chuvash Republic, and Ilich Marsbek uulu, First Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. They discussed some issues of developing cooperation in the agro-industrial complex.
