Naira Karapetyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, spoke about the development trends of the Eurasian Economic Union and its role in the global agricultural market at the special session "Russian–Indian Dialogue in Agriculture and Food Security" of the international conference "Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda".
The session discussed the issues of stability of trade in food products, prospects for the establishment of joint agricultural and food enterprises, as well as the exchange of experience and transfer of innovations in the agricultural sector.
"The EAEU states, like India, are committed to the effective development of the industry and are already making a significant contribution to food security at the global level. External supplies of agricultural produce from the Union countries have reached a qualitatively new level over ten years, having increased more than twofold," Naira Karapetyan noted.
The event was attended by government and public figures, representatives of business circles, scientific and expert community of Russia and India.
"India's growing population, changes in its income level and consumption patterns, successful steps taken by the country's government to transform the agricultural sector, as well as new transportation corridors and financial chains being built open up broad prospects for increasing trade in agricultural produce and food between the EAEU countries and India," Naira Karapetyan summarized.
