EEC and African Union Commission Discussed Development of Trade and Economic Cooperation

During the negotiations between Eldar Alisherov and Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson for the African Union Commission (AUC), held on the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, it was noted that trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and the African Union is of mutual strategic interest for the parties, based on the similarity of many competencies and areas for building integration.

The meeting discussed practical aspects of drafting a new memorandum of cooperation between the EEC and the AUC, which will contribute to fulfilling the trade and economic potential of the EAEU countries and Africa.

The parties also agreed to explore the possibility of making a joint action plan, including events with the participation of the EEC and the AUC at the UN platform, as well as seminars, round tables and conferences featuring representatives of the business community.

"It is necessary to actively involve business communities in the dialogue between the EEC and African integration institutions, invite them to seminars, round tables, forums and conferences, so that it is possible to understand a specific business request for practical aspects of cooperation and eliminate the lack of information about the opportunities for partners in the markets," Eldar Alisherov said.

The EEC Minister invited the AUC representatives to participate in the next Eurasian Economic Forum in 2025.

The African Union is an international intergovernmental organization consisting of 55 African states, the successor to the Organization of African Unity. The organization was established in 2002.
