EEC and Cuba deepen cooperation

Prospects for deepening the economic dialogue between the Eurasian Economic Commission and Cuba were discussed at the EEC headquarters during a working meeting between Avtandil Alybayev, Deputy Director of the Commission's Integration Development Department, and Alejandro Simancas Marin, deputy director general for Bilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.

In particular, they considered organizational issues related to the forthcoming meeting of the Joint Commission on Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of the Republic of Cuba.

Avtandil Alybayev noted the systemic nature of the EEC's interaction with Cuba as an observer state at the EAEU. This country is one of the key trade and economic partners of the Union in Latin America and the Caribbean. As part of the meetings of the Joint Commission, which was established by the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and the Government of Cuba, business seminars or business missions are held featuring entrepreneurs from the Union and Cuba; traditionally, companies of the EAEU states participate in the largest Cuban congress and exhibition event, the FIHAV fair.

The parties discussed holding the next meeting of the Joint Commission in Moscow this fall. It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues, including cooperation in the field of industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, technical regulation, SPS measures and a number of others.

Alejandro Simancas Marin noted that it is important for the Cuban party to consider specific cooperation projects, primarily in the field of biotechnology and fertilizer production. In this regard, the partners agreed to involve representatives of interested business circles from both parties to participate in the Joint Commission meeting in cooperation with the EAEU Business Council and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting also discussed the progress of shaping a new draft plan for joint action of the EEC and the Government of the Republic of Cuba for 2026–2030.

In conclusion, Alejandro Simancas Marin told about Cuba's plans to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum 2025 at a high level, including representatives of official and business circles in its delegation.
