Strengthening interaction between the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS ICS) and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in terms of harmonizing approaches to technical regulation and removing barriers to mutual trade was discussed on July 9–10 at the 69th meeting of the CIS ICS in Kyrgyzstan.
Serik Kusainov, Director of the EEC Technical Regulation and Accreditation Department, stressed the important role of the CIS ISC as a self-sufficient sectoral institution shaping the quality infrastructure across the Commonwealth.
The EEC representative informed his colleagues about some approaches to removing technical barriers to trade enshrined in the EAEU law and confirmed their compliance with established international practice. He also noted the need to intensify bilateral dialogue between the EAEU and CIS structures to exchange best practices in this field.“The priority application of interstate standards in the EAEU law is due to their actual relevance for both integration associations,” Serik Kusainov mentioned. “Today, we can state that interstate standardization is becoming increasingly practical in nature, focusing on the Eurasian Economic Union's needs.”
The event was attended by representatives of the national bodies for standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, and accreditation of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee, the ISC Standards Bureau, the International Organization for Standardization, the International Electrotechnical Commission, and UNIDO.
The EEC and the CIS ISC interact in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Standardization and Uniformity of Measurements (signed on June 7, 2013), as well as within the 2026–2030 Action Plan for implementing the Memorandum on Deepening Interaction between the EEC and the CIS Executive Committee dated November 27, 2018.
