The Eurasian Economic Commission and the United Nations are entering a qualitatively new phase of interaction. This was stated by Bakhyt Sultanov, the EEC Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy, in his video address to participants in the 59th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

The EEC Minister reminded that in late May 2026, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Astana. According to him, the document opens opportunities for large-scale joint cooperation.

As Bakhyt Sultanov noted, the Memorandum will allow the EEC to rely on UNCITRAL standards when drafting acts of the Union’s governing bodies in the field of commercial law. Specific steps have already been recorded in the plan for 2026: experts will conduct a series of webinars, establish an exchange of information, and the EEC will assist in translating UNCITRAL’s online training courses.

In his address, the Minister also touched on the issues on the session’s agenda. Its programme included the creation of an advisory center for settling investment disputes, the development of e-commerce and digital platforms, online payments, transaction security, and bankruptcy issues.

The EEC involvement in UNCITRAL’s activities provides access to up-to-date information on international approaches and expert solutions, which will be further used to improve the EAEU law.

“It is important for us that international standards and best practices are put into practice in a way that helps the EAEU countries to optimize regulation, reduce costs for businesses, develop digital tools, ensure legal certainty, and strengthen confidence between participants in economic activity,” Bakhyt Sultanov concluded.
