The Eurasian Economic Commission and the East African Community Competition Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of competition policy and enforcement as part of the events of the 23rd session of UNCTAD’s Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy in Geneva.

The Memorandum consolidated the parties’ intention to develop practical interaction and strengthen professional dialogue on competition, and became an important step in extending the EEC international cooperation in the field of competition.

The document envisages the development of contacts between experts, the exchange of information on approaches to law enforcement, the discussion of current challenges in competition policy, and the study of regulatory practices in transboundary markets.

“The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the East African Community Competition Authority became an important milestone in developing dialogue between regional integration associations. This document has established the basis for more meaningful cooperation in the field of competition policy and developing joint approaches to regulatory issues in transboundary markets. This exchange of best practices will allow us to find more efficient solutions for developing a competitive environment,” Maksim Yermalovich emphasized.

The signing of the Memorandum confirms the interest of the EEC and the East African Community in deepening their interaction and is part of the Commission’s consistent efforts to extend international cooperation in the field of competition policy and enforcement.
