The Eurasian Economic Commission's headquarters hosted a seminar on developing sectoral cooperation, identifying and eliminating barriers to mutual trade with the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was attended by representatives of public authorities, businesses and expert community from the Eurasian Economic Union countries.

"Today's seminar is dedicated to our special partner, the Republic of Uzbekistan, that has been an observer at the EAEU since 2020. We engage in an ongoing work with our colleagues and our cooperation is of strategic nature," said Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister in charge of Trade.
According to statistics, trade turnover of the EAEU countries with Uzbekistan is continuously growing: last year, it increased over 1.5 times, from 15.6 billion dollars to 25 billion dollars. Exports from the EAEU countries comprise energy commodities, ferrous metals, mechanical devices and equipment, lumber, grain, sugar and oils. The partner supplies to the EAEU textiles, cars, electrical products, foodstuffs, fruit and vegetable products.

"We observe growing trade with Uzbekistan but simultaneously note the remaining barriers, both tariff and non-tariff," the EEC Minister added urging the event participants to have an active discussion.
The seminar considered the issues of logistics, improving administrative and customs procedures, the problematic aspects of SPS measures in terms of accrediting exporting suppliers from the EAEU countries, participation in public procurement, as well as the topics of mutual settlements and information support for businesses. One of the key objectives noted by most experts is the work to converge the technical regulation requirements of Uzbekistan and the EAEU.

"The information on the existing barriers to trade, as well as proposals on their elimination will be systematized and used in the further dialogue with our partners from Uzbekistan in the existing interaction formats," Andrey Slepnev summed up.
