EEC approved recommendation to develop cooperation between EAEU countries in copper industry

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board adopted a recommendation aimed at developing cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union States in the copper industry. The document has been prepared as part of implementing the Main Directions of Industrial Cooperation within the EAEU until 2025.

The recommendation specifies promising areas of industrial cooperation in manufacturing copper products with regard to the EAEU countries’ specialization and potential - from collection and processing of copper scrap to manufacturing copper wire. Besides, the document includes an open list of the EAEU manufacturers and consumers in each area of cooperation.

"The EAEU has formed stable cooperation ties between mining and processing companies of the copper industry. Conditions should be created for their further development in a changing environment," noted Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture.

According to Artak Kamalyan, experience exchange on modernizing copper mining and processing companies is provided to reduce environmental damage as well as implement advanced technologies for developing new copper deposits given the reduction of the Union’s raw material base developed. Furthermore, it is planned to improve the efficiency of cooperation between the countries in manufacturing high value-added copper products as well.

"Implementing the recommendation will help create the Union’s closed manufacturing cycle - from procuring copper ore to manufacturing finished products for sale to consumers of related industries as well as will provide an opportunity to work on the climate agenda," Artak Kamalyan summed up.
