On August 28, the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board adopted a recommendation on creating and developing the charging and service (technical) infrastructure for electric motor vehicles in the Eurasian Economic Union States.
“Adopting this recommendation defines further approaches in the work on joint development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in our countries", emphasized Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture.
According to Artak Kamalyan, the adopted document invites the Union States to focus on establishing cooperation in a number of areas included in the relevant list. This entails promoting the creation of charging and service (technical) infrastructure, including on international transport corridors and routes for free movement of vehicles in the Member States territories, and organizing the manufacture of equipment for charging infrastructure.
The EAEU countries were recommended to elaborate, jointly with the Commission, an interactive development map (indicating the location of facilities) of charging and service (technical) infrastructure for electric motor vehicles in the Member States territories with its further placement on the Union's information portal.
In order to exchange experience between the Member States and consider the possibility of creating joint projects in this field, the recommendation includes a reference to a catalogue of projects on developing the charging infrastructure for electric motor vehicles already implemented or planned to be implemented in the EAEU countries.
"Joining efforts and close cooperation of the Member States in this direction will ultimately contribute to popularizing electric transport, increasing innovative activities, and achieving the climate agenda goals", Artak Kamalyan emphasized.
This issue was prepared to implement Instruction No. 8 of the EEC Council dated July 15, 2022 to review the Member States' experience in developing the charging infrastructure for electric transport and the possibility of creating a joint cooperative project (if necessary).
Given the interest in developing this area in all the Member States, the Commission jointly with the parties analyzed the Member States' experience in creating and developing the charging infrastructure, including the formation of a network of electric charging stations, creation of charging infrastructure as part of multifunctional road service zones, installation of charging stations for electric buses, etc., as well as the current state of charging infrastructure development in the Member States.
Following the analysis, a report entitled "Experience of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States in Developing the Charging Infrastructure for Electric Motor Vehicles" was prepared, which later served as the basis for developing the said recommendation of the EEC Board.
