EEC is open to establishing general terms within EAEU for developing green agricultural sector

This was stated by Armen Harutyunyan, Director of Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, at the panel discussion "Eco-labeling: Import Substitution in the Segment or Fight Against Greenwashing" as part of the VIII International Forum of Business and Government "Russian Retail Week".

The participants of the discussion considered a number of issues related to promoting the organic agriculture concept among producers and consumers, government regulation and greenwashing, as well as the prospects for developing the organic food market.

"The Commission, jointly with the EAEU countries, is completing the development of a draft agreement aimed at the free circulation of organic products within our Union. To unify the requirements for organic production, the Organic Products Interstate Technical Committee functions under the chairmanship of the head of Roskachestvo that includes representatives of all EAEU states," Armen Harutyunyan informed.

The meeting participants also discussed the implementation of ESG principles, approaches to sustainable agriculture, and the international climate agenda.

"The EEC agricultural unit is already working on developing cooperation between the Member States in applying precision farming technologies, conserving and restoring soil fertility, and the sustainable growth of aquaculture. The EEC is a good platform for businesses and government agencies to develop mutually beneficial, cooperative investment projects," Armen Harutyunyan said.
