The list of Eurasian transport corridors and routes is scheduled to be approved at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board in October this year. The relevant draft was developed by the EEC jointly with the Eurasian Economic Union countries. The document was prepared with due regard to the growing cargo traffic between the European States and Southeast Asian countries as well as new approaches to developing container traffic.
This was stated by Temirbek Asanbekov, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, speaking at the plenary session of the 16th International Forum on Developing Transport Corridors "TRANSTEC" held in St. Petersburg.
"We can talk about creating a reliable Eurasian land bridge passing through the territories of our States," the EEC Minister noted.
The Commission, jointly with the Member States, works on coordinating the infrastructure development, creating and developing the Eurasian transport corridors and routes as well as implementing significant integration projects in the field of transport.
Besides, Temirbek Asanbekov has informed that in case of infrastructure restrictions it makes sense to switch to multimodal transportation where road transport ensuring the delivery of containers, including the "last mile", is involved.
During the session "Digital Transport Corridors in the EAEU Digital Agenda," the EEC Minister has reported that on September 14 the Commission’s Council decided to create a "showcase" of national services of the Union’s ecosystem of digital transport corridors, at the initiative of the Russian side.
These services will include such topics as a digital map and database of major highways and infrastructure facilities, booking motorway infrastructure facilities, booking queues at a road checkpoint, using an electronic international waybill for rail and road transport and information exchange between the Union’s ecosystem of digital transport corridors and systems of third countries.
"The Commission and the Union States attach great importance to successful implementation of these projects," Temirbek Asanbekov stressed.
Besides a working meeting with Dmitry Zverev, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, was held on the sidelines of the Forum where issues of interaction in the field of transport in the EAEU space were discussed.
For reference
The Forum has been held in St. Petersburg since 1994. It is attended by representatives of public authorities, professional associations, research and development centers and transport and industrial companies. This year the Forum’s theme has expanded significantly: it includes issues surrounding the development of railway, automotive infrastructure, inland waterways as well as digitalization in transport. This is due to modern trends and the need to introduce innovations, modern logistics and management schemes, to form large multimodal hubs and to create reliable transport links. An extensive discussion of relevant matters contributes to developing the most efficient measures to overcome existing problems as well as form plans to develop Russia’s transport system.
