EEC Improves Seed Market

At the International Conference and Exhibition Tukym 2025 Seed Day in Astana, Aina Kusainova, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, spoke about the work of the Eurasian Economic Commission to improve the common seed market of the Eurasian Economic Union carried out jointly with the EAEU countries.

Recalling that the foundations for the creation of this market are laid by the Treaty on the Union and the Agreement on Agricultural Plant Seed Circulation in the EAEU, Aina Kusainova emphasized, "Today, the Union enables unimpeded circulation of seeds and planting material. The Member States mutually recognize documents on seed varietal and sawing qualities. The relevant list of national documents, as well as a unified composition of mandatory information that they must contain, have been approved by legal acts of the Eurasian Economic Commission."

To ensure equivalence of seed quality determination procedures, uniform methods have been approved, tested and are successfully used in the Union countries. The documents aimed at unification of testing procedures for varieties of crops in the EAEU, requirements to seed categories, to their packaging and labeling have been adopted, approaches to unifying indicators of varietal and sowing qualities of seeds have been developed.

A common information resource — a unified register of crop varieties authorized or recommended for use in the Member States — has been introduced.

Thanks to the consolidated efforts of the Union countries, there are positive trends in the development of seed production and mutual trade in seeds, the volume of which has increased by 1.7 times in recent years.

In the course of the conference and exhibition events, proposals and solutions on relevant matters of seed production were elaborated, and promising directions and effective mechanisms for the development of the common seed market were discussed.

The conference and exhibition Tukym 2025 Seed Day was held with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, RSU "State Commission for Variety Testing of Crops", Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Republican Chamber of Seed Growers, ALE and a number of other organizations.
