EEC temporarily zeroed out import duty for industrial fatty alcohols

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board has established for 3 years an import customs duty in the amount of 0% in respect of industrial fatty alcohols. At present, the rate is 5%.

These goods are source raw materials for extracting surface-active substances in manufacturing liquid washing and cleaning products, cosmetics, in metal industry, textile, leather, paint, paper, food and healthcare industries and agriculture.

Nowadays, the Eurasian Economic Union fails to manufacture industrial fatty alcohols; for this reason the existing needs are met through import deliveries.

"The adopted measure of customs tariff regulation will help support the Union countries’ manufacturers of surfactants, reduce production costs as well as improve competitiveness in the EAEU internal market", noted Vahagn Ghazaryan, Director of the EEC Tariff and Non-tariff Customs Regulation Department.

The Resolution shall come into effect after 30 calendar days have elapsed from the date of its official publication.

In accordance with the EEC Board’s Decisions No. 17 dated March 10, 2015 and No. 99 dated June 13, 2018, the import customs duty rate of 0% of the customs value was applied to the goods in question from April 2015 to December 2017 and from September 2018 to August 2021.
