At the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC) on May 29 in Astana, the Heads of Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union adopted a Joint Statement on responsible artificial intelligence development in the Union. The document was prepared in pursuance of the priorities set out in the address of Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The Statement is strategic, framework-based, and forms the foundation for the coordinated progress of Member States towards the responsible development and application of AI technologies in the EAEU economy.

It confirms the digital sovereignty of Member States, enshrines the principles of objectivity, non-discrimination and ethics, and sets guidelines for preventing new barriers in the Union's internal market.

The document aims at developing practical cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, including the implementation of joint projects, the exchange of regulatory experience, and cooperation in technological and production chains.

One of the guidelines mentioned is the international principles of responsible artificial intelligence promoted within the United Nations.

The implementation of the provisions of the Statement ensures the acceleration of digital transformation, increased competitiveness of the economies of Member States, and the creation of new opportunities for citizens and businesses.
