Goar Barseghyan: "EAEU and China join efforts in promoting mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation"

Goar Barseghyan, Director of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Integration Development Department, announced this in her welcoming speech to the participants of the 4th Eurasian Research on Modern China and Eurasia conference. The event was held on December 2 in Yerevan on the initiative of the China-Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Studies. 

The Director of the EEC Department highlighted the current trends that determine the nature of interaction between the EAEU and China, noting that the Eurasian Economic Union and China play a key role in shaping the geopolitical situation in the world.

Goar Barseghyan informed about the well-developed infrastructure for trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and China, which provides a solid basis for the implementation of the concept of the Greater Eurasian Partnership, and pointed out further actions to link the Union with the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative by searching for common approaches, compromises and points of mutual strengthening of the economies. 

The representative of the Commission named the transport and logistics megaproject in Greater Eurasia as one of the global initiatives that could be implemented on the Eurasian continent with the SCO partners, primarily with China. This project involves the synchronous development of transport corridors and digital transformation of routes, as well as the creation of a unified customs transit system.

The conference focused on the practical implementation of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative in the Caucasus and the Middle East, issues of digitalization and cybersecurity in the Eurasian region, China's economic opportunities in the context of reconciling the interests of the West and East of Eurasia, economic development strategies in Asia Pacific, the role of BRICS and SCO in Asia.
