On April 3 in Astana President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev received Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The meeting discussed the current state and prospects for further development of the Eurasian Economic Union.
In particular, the covered issues included functioning of the EAEU internal market, implementation of industrial cooperation projects, creation of value-added chains, as well as improvement of transport infrastructure and logistics.
Special attention was paid to the development and implementation of new approaches to digital issues, including the improvement of the Integrated Information System of the Union.
Bakytzhan Sagintaev said that this year the Commission would present to the Heads of Government of the EAEU countries a vision of the "four freedoms" principle in the context of widespread digitalization.
The Chairman of the EEC Board also shared the key achievements of the Eurasian Five countries over 10 years.
For instance, mutual trade between the Member States has almost doubled and foreign trade turnover has increased by 60%. The aggregate GDP of the EAEU is 2.4 trillion dollars, and other macroeconomic indicators are also on the upward trend.
Discussing the prospects for the development of integration processes, the parties considered the implementation by the Commission together with the Member States of the initiatives laid down in the Eurasian Economic Path Declaration.
The meeting included a thorough exchange of views on reinforcing the EAEU's activities in the external track and intensifying cooperation with third countries and international associations (SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, Andean Community, etc.).
Following the meeting, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev gave a number of specific instructions and set new tasks for the Eurasian Economic Commission.
