EEC Board approves the topic of consumer rights protection in the Union countries

"Feel at home online: know your rights and buy wisely" – this topic has been approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission as a priority for work in the Eurasian Economic Union in 2026. The EEC Board adopted a corresponding recommendation for the Union countries at its meeting on December 24.

The chosen topic will attract additional public attention to the problems of interaction between consumers and entrepreneurs in the digital space and will help strengthen trust therebetween.

In 2026, the EAEU states have planned information and educational events to raise citizens' awareness of their online rights, behavioral patterns, and the selection of goods and services in the virtual space. The forthcoming work will cover residents of all five Member States.

According to a survey conducted by the Commission, 95% of the population of the Union countries purchase goods online, 80% of whom purchase not only goods but also services. However, the problem related to violation of their rights in e-commerce is becoming increasingly acute: every second resident of the EAEU countries has encountered such a violation.

The 2026 topic was proposed by the Advisory Committee on Consumer Protection of the Union countries following a public vote conducted by the Commission.

The general approaches of Member States to the protection of consumer rights in e-commerce are presented in the Commission Board's Recommendation No. 10 dated May 11, 2023.
