The Eurasian Economic Commission, jointly with telecommunications operators from the Eurasian Economic Union countries, is working to introduce fair voice roaming tariffs within the Member States starting in 2028.
This was stated by Maksim Yermalovich, the EEC Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation, at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Communications Administrations – Members of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) and the CIS States Coordination Council on Informatization under the RCC, held on June 5 in St. Petersburg.
Maksim Yermalovich informed the meeting attendees about the draft Rules for applying fair tariffs for cellular communication services in international roaming within the EAEU Member States.
In its efforts to introduce fair tariffs, the Commission draws on the experience of the Union State, where Belarusian and Russian mobile operators had already reduced roaming tariffs for their subscribers within the Union State by up to 90% since November 1, 2020.
“The experience of the Union State serves as a good example and a representative result of cooperation in this field. We strive to extend it onto the entire Eurasian Economic Union,” Maksim Yermalovich emphasized.
The Commission, jointly with the EAEU States, is currently working out the level of international interconnection rates for roaming calls and inter-operator roaming tariffs. This work should lead to setting tariffs that are as close as possible to “home” ones.
