As part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Maksim Yermalovich, Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, participated in the session “Antitrust Regulation and Intellectual Property: Transforming Approaches in the Digital Era”.
The discussion was devoted to the balance between antitrust regulation and intellectual property rights amid digitalization. The experts discussed, in particular, the development of competition and innovation, the transformation of commodity markets, and anti-competitive practices related to the abuse of exclusive intellectual property rights.
“The Eurasian Economic Union’s competition law does not contain any antitrust immunities. Such immunities are provided for in national antitrust legislation, and their scope varies. In this regard, we consider it expedient to further harmonize legislation and support the exclusion of immunities related to exclusive intellectual property rights to promote competition and innovation in the Union States,” Maksim Yermalovich noted.
