International Grains Council and EEC to hold joint event at Eurasian Economic Forum in autumn 2024
Goar Barseghyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Eurasian Economic Commission, informed on developing economic integration in the agricultural sector of the Eurasian Economic Union countries at the International Grains Conference held on June 11-12 in London.
The EEC Minister placed the emphasis on developing the Union's sectoral law aimed at ensuring security and free trade in agricultural commodities, as well as the EAEU's food self-sufficiency in the main types of agricultural products and the existing export potential.
"More than a quarter of wheat supplied to the international market is produced within the EAEU. The Commission is interested in strengthening cooperation with international organizations, exchange of experience in ensuring sustainable development of agriculture and stability of agricultural markets," Goar Barseghyan noted.Goar Barseghyan was also invited to participate in the 60th session of the International Grains Council (IGC), following which she held a meeting with Arnaud Petit, Executive Director of the IGC. The parties discussed some issues of cooperation in the field of digitalization, forecasting of agricultural development and its adaptation to the changing climate. An arrangement has been reached with the International Grains Council to hold a joint event at the Eurasian Economic Forum in the autumn of 2024 in Yerevan.
The Grains Conference is an annual event of the International Grains Council and is dedicated to food security, development of international grain trade and grain market stability. The Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and the IGC has been in effect since 2021.
