At the meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Energy Bodies of the EAEU Member States in the framework of EEF 2026, the heads of relevant ministries, chaired by Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, discussed the prospects for the formation of a common electricity market and a common gas market in the EAEU.

The energy ministers noted that the gradual development of existing relations between Member States in the gas sector is an effective and significant tool for creating conditions enabling stable economic development of Member States.

Arzybek Kozhoshev emphasized as follows: "The common gas market of the EAEU was launched on January 1, 2025. This year, the heads of state of the Union are expected to approve a Development Plan for the Union's Common Gas Market until 2030, aiming to expand gas use with regard to the needs and characteristics of the Member States' domestic gas markets, and to develop scientific and technical potential, including artificial intelligence."

The participants intend to continue work to define strategic approaches to the functioning of the Union's common gas market in the EAEU's regulatory framework.

The heads of energy departments of the Eurasian five countries also discussed preparations for the launch of the Union's common electricity market. Council of Heads of Authorized Energy Bodies has instructed experts to work on the issue of planning electricity supplies during the transition period.

The next meeting of the Council was decided to be held at the premises of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation in September of this year.
