Eurasian Economic Forum discussed new ways of developing tourism industry within EAEU

The development of tourism was discussed by experts on May 26 at the thematic session "Tourism industry - a new round of extending economic cooperation" within the Eurasian Economic Forum. The strategic plan for developing the Eurasian integration until 2025, approved by the Heads of the Eurasian Economic Union States, includes tourism as one of the upcoming trends of economic cooperation.

The Union countries hold large cultural and natural potential for developing tourism as a means of achieving one of the association's goals: creating conditions for strengthening the economies of the Eurasian five countries. New jobs, the development of related economy sectors and increased mutual investment will enable raising the living standards of the EAEU peoples. At the same time, in the context of the global economy, one of the most dynamic and highly profitable industries has been experiencing an overall crisis in recent years. The potential of Eurasian integration could contribute to getting it over.

"Nowadays, the EAEU is at a new stage of its development - the Presidents of our countries have approved Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025, which, in particular, contemplate measures in the field of tourism development", said Yermek Kuantyrov, Director of the EEC Business Development Department.

During the panel discussion, the attendees discussed new economic conditions for doing tourism business, as well as some possibilities of maximizing the Union’s potential for developing tourism not only in the EAEU countries, but also in the common Eurasian space.

The discussion attendees stressed the importance of developing partnership, experience exchange and using the best international practices in regulating the tourism sector. The need was noted to develop promising types of tourism, including educational and medical tourism and medical rehabilitation.

"Our professional tourism business associations of the Union countries have expressed a desire to establish close ties for developing economic cooperation in the field of tourism", stated Samat Shatmanov, Moderator of the thematic session and Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Besides, at the venue of the thematic session within the Eurasian Economic Forum, the heads of the EAEU countries’ tourism business associations signed a Memorandum of Cooperation as a tool for prompt exchange of all necessary information about the tourism market in the Union’s territory.
