Zero customs duty on containers to continue applying until the end of February 2023

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board has extended the validity period of zero import customs duty on certain types of containers (code 8609 00 900 9 of the CN FEA of the EAEU) up to and including February 28, 2023.

"The adopted decision will enable preventing the container fleet reduction after some Western logistics companies left the EAEU, stimulating the renewal and saturation of the internal market with relevant goods," noted Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade.

He has explained that the containers currently manufactured in the Union’s territory are completely bought out by the EAEU countries’ business community, but the current needs are not met in full.

Necessary amendments will be made to other Commission's acts as well.

For reference

The subheading 8609 00 900 9 of the EAEU CN of FEA classifies containers (including containers for transportation of liquids or gases) specially designed and equipped for carriage by one or more modes of transport, except for containers with anti-radiation lead coating for transportation of radioactive substances, as well as containers with an internal volume from 42 cubic meters to 43 cubic meters.

The current rate of the CCT EAEU import customs duty in respect of containers is 10% of the customs value. In accordance with Decision No. 63 of the Commission’s Board dated April 12, 2022, a duty of 0% is applied from March 28, 2022 to September 30, 2022.
