The experts of the working group on interaction with the World Customs Organization (WCO) have preliminary approved the legal and organizational approaches to developing cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the WCO as part of implementing the Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025.

The EEC expert meeting was attended by representatives of the block on customs cooperation of the Commission and authorized bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union member States, whose competence is to improve customs regulation. The work group members considered a set of issues necessary for implementing the Strategy-2025 on interaction with the WCO.

“The Commission has developed a document that defines the main organizational and legal approaches to implementing the Directive of the leaders of the EAEU Member States on the Union’s membership in the WCO, as well as joining its fundamental legal instruments”, said Sergey Vladimirov, Director of the EEC Department for Customs Legislation and Law Enforcement Practice.

The Head of the Department explained that the solution of this task requires an in-depth analysis of legal, procedural, institutional aspects, identifying benefits and possible risks for the Union, and such work is underway by the Commission.

Developing cooperation between the Union and the WCO is essential to implement the Strategic Directions and the Main Directions of the EAEU International Activities and makes a positive impact on the customs regulation law update.
