Daniiar Imanaliev highlighted that developing dialogue with ASEAN and its Member States was one of the key priorities of the EAEU foreign economic agenda.“The EAEU and ASEAN have enormous potential for expanding trade and economic cooperation,” the EEC Minister stated. “Today, ASEAN is an important and rapidly growing export market for the EAEU, with trade turnover exceeding USD 26 billion and demonstrating the highest growth rates among all major macro-regions. At the same time, this potential can be multiplied many times over.”
Daniiar Imanaliev also mentioned that the strategic development agendas of the two integration groupings overlapped across a wide range of economic areas, and that their best practices were of mutual interest.“At this stage, an important task is to raise awareness among business communities of the opportunities and conditions available to entrepreneurs in the EAEU and ASEAN countries, as business is the primary beneficiary of trade and economic cooperation,” he told.
“Both groupings are focused on advancing digital and technological transformation, energy and infrastructure development, food security, and the maintenance of macroeconomic stability,” the EEC Minister stressed. “We see considerable potential for further expanding cooperation in these and other areas.”
Participants in the business dialogue included Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia–ASEAN Business Council; Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN; Aung Kyaw Htoo, Minister of National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia; Igor Bailen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the Russian Federation; Tan Sri Anthony Francis Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of Capital A Berhad; Pyotr Zaselskiy, Chairman of the Management Board of Eximbank of Russia; and Alexey Kulapin, Director General of the Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and ASEAN on Economic Cooperation had been signed in 2018. Memoranda of cooperation or understanding, as well as free trade agreements, have since been concluded with the majority of ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar.
