EAEU consumers and businesses reach out to each other

The mechanisms of good faith interaction between consumers and entrepreneurs in the EAEU markets were devised following the discussion session during the International Forum "Anti-Counterfeiting – 2022" in Bishkek. The session was moderated by Natalia Zhukova, Director of the EEC Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures.

"In present-day conditions, it is necessary to increase the level of trust among consumer market participants, to ensure reliable protection of the rights of citizens, to create favorable conditions for them," noted Natalia Zhukova, Director of the EEC Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures. "The economic challenges should be best addressed by establishing responsible professional communities that take consumer interests into account."

According to Natalia Zhukova, crisis events in global economy should not affect the level of protection of citizen rights in the EAEU; all the necessary arrangements for that are in place.

Representatives of business associations, state and public bodies and organizations of the EAEU, Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Commission reviewed the trends and prospects for business self-regulation in the consumer interests and the best practices in applying voluntary manufacturing standards and marketing as the essential element of protecting the consumer market from counterfeit and fake products.

It was noted how important the work initiated by the Commission was for determining the EAEU countries’ common approaches to protecting consumer rights in e-commerce.

The participants made a decision to continue cooperation on developing alternative online mechanisms for settling consumer disputes as an important element of fair business practices. This work is aimed at implementing the Program of the EAEU Countries' Joint Actions to Protect Consumer Rights.

The session was the platform for signing the Agreement on Cooperation Aimed at Developing Effective Good Faith Relations in the Consumer Market between the management of the Union of Juice, Water and Beverage Producers of Eurasia and the Scientific and Practical Center for Foodstuffs of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Natalia Zhukova emphasized that the EEC paid great attention to the development of new mechanisms to consolidate the efforts of consumer market actors aimed at improving the quality of products made in the EAEU countries.
