At its meeting held on March 13, the Eurasian Economic Commission's Council adopted a decision establishing uniform marking rules for certain types of confectionery products in consumer packages.

According to the signed document, the Eurasian Economic Union countries will determine, at their sole discretion, the introduction date and procedures for marking products with identification means within their territories, notifying the EEC thereof no later than six months before the start of the relevant activities.

“The extension of product categories subject to marking shows the development of the Union’s common marking system, enabling consumers to verify the authenticity of products and enhancing the competitiveness of bona fide market participants by reducing illegal trade,” noted Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister in charge of Trade.

He emphasized that marking would be carried out according to uniform rules, in compliance with the provisions of the basic technological and organizational model of the EAEU system for marking goods with identification means, approved by the EEC Council's Decision in 2019. Thus, mutual recognition of codes will be ensured, which will eliminate the need to re-label goods when they are circulated within the Union.
