EEC Council expanded list of goods subject to labeling in EAEU

The Eurasian Economic Commission's Council considered a set of proposals from the Eurasian Economic Union countries and adopted a number of decisions establishing uniform labeling rules for tea, coffee, cocoa, paints and varnishes, children's toys, and construction materials.

According to the signed documents, the Member States will independently determine the date of introduction and the procedure for labeling products with identification means in their territory, notifying the EEC thereof no later than six months before the start of the relevant activities.

“The extension of product categories subject to labeling shows the development of the Union’s common labeling system, enabling consumers to verify the authenticity of products and enhancing the competitiveness of bona fide market participants by reducing illegal trade,” noted Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister in charge of Trade.

He emphasized that the labeling of new product groups would be carried out according to uniform rules, in compliance with the provisions of the basic technological and organizational model of the EAEU system for labeling goods with identification means, approved by the EEC Council's Decision in 2019. Thus, mutual recognition of codes will be ensured, which will eliminate the need to re-label goods when they are circulated within the Union.
