At its meeting on May 20, the Eurasian Economic Commission's Council adopted a resolution to form a joint research group to study the feasibility of signing a free trade agreement with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
On behalf of the Eurasian Economic Union, the group will include candidates proposed by the EAEU countries, as well as representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
“Preliminary analysis shows that a potential transition to a preferential trade regime could create sustainable competitive advantages for us in the Pakistani market for a range of agricultural commodities, metallurgy products, coal, chemical, and pulp and paper products. At the same time, it can help diversify trade flows, allowing partners to increase exports of fresh fruits, vegetables, prepared foods, and certain categories of industrial goods," noted Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister in charge of trade.
As a reminder, on April 6, 2026, Andrey Slepnev met with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan. Following this meeting, the sides agreed to initiate the process of forming a joint research group to study the feasibility of concluding a free trade agreement between the EAEU and Pakistan.
