Central African countries interested in studying EAEU integration experience

The issues of functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union's internal market, promotion of trade between the Member States and prospects for developing industrial cooperation within regional economic associations were discussed by Goar Barseghyan, Director of the Integration Development Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Francois Quinimba, Commissioner of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) for the Common Market, Economic, Monetary and Financial Relations, at the meeting of the parties' delegations as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum held on June 15.

Goar Barseghyan and Francois Quinimba informed each other on the current state of the integration agendas, noting their similarity in certain respects of the internal market regulation. For this purpose, the exchange of best integration practices is seen by the parties as a promising area of cooperation.

The ECCAS representative expressed interest in the EEC cooperation mechanisms with the business community and the possibilities of developing industrial cooperation in the Union.

In response to a corresponding request from the African delegation, Goar Barseghyan confirmed her readiness to organize a specialized seminar for a more in-depth exchange of views. It is proposed to be held at the venue of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum on July 26-29 this year in St. Petersburg. At the Forum, the parties will be able to pay special attention to the EAEU interaction with sub-regional integration associations of Africa.

In turn, Francois Quinimba expressed interest in establishing a sustainable dialogue between the ECCAS and the EEC and spoke about the possibility of formalizing cooperation with the Commission.

The meeting was also attended by Oleg Ozerov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Head of the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
