EAEU approved Tourism Development Concept

The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council approved the Concept for Developing Tourism within the Eurasian Economic Union. The document defines priority areas for developing the industry, as well as joint activities to expand economic cooperation within the EAEU.

According to Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the strategic document includes specific measures that will contribute to increasing mutual tourist travels.

"The plans include developing new Eurasian tourist routes that will connect our countries with common 'threads of experience'. And one more thing: the creation of a special section on tourism on the Union's web portal, which will provide information on the tourism potential of the EAEU States,” the EEC Minister noted.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism accounted for approximately 10% of global GDP in 2024, creating one in ten jobs on the planet. International experts note that the industry in general has not only recovered from the pandemic, but in some regions has even exceeded pre-crisis levels.

The EAEU countries have significant potential for growth, as currently the average share of tourism in the Union's GDP is only about 3%. All countries have already started actively working at the national level by adopting strategies aimed at improving tourist safety, enhancing the quality of services, creating a comfortable environment, training personnel, and attracting investment into the industry.

"The Concept implementation should contribute to the development of each country's tourism potential, increasing mutual tourist flow and the industry's contribution to the economy. I believe that this will strengthen the competitive position of the tourism sector throughout the Union," Bakhyt Sultanov concluded.
