EEC discussed mechanisms of interstate cooperation in pedigree livestock breeding within EAEU

As part of the international exhibition AGROBRICS+ within MVC: Cereals-Mixed Feed-Veterinary, the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission held a round table On the Establishment of the Centers of Expertise in Cattle Breeding.

Representatives of public authorities, business unions, research institutions of the Eurasian Economic Union countries with the participation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations discussed the most important areas and mechanisms of interstate cooperation to expand the use of technology to predict the breeding value of farm animals, including on the basis of genomic analysis.

The concepts and models of the Eurasian genomic selection system proposed by the speakers and supported by the discussion participants, as well as approaches to joint selection and genetic research and exchange of experience can be implemented in the framework of coordination and analytical support of selection and breeding through Eurasian centers of competence in pedigree livestock breeding.

"The results of the round table will be the subject of the Commission's further consideration and elaboration of agreed mechanisms of interstate cooperation for sustainable development of livestock breeding in the Union states based on wide introduction of genomic selection and highly effective reproductive technologies," summarized Naira Karapetyan, Director of the EEC Agricultural Policy Department.
